# Overview

The **Product Type** category is the second level in the hierarchy structure. Product Classes link to Product Types, and Product Types link to Product Categories. 

Examples of Product Types include:

- Kitchen
- Bathroom
- Appliances
- Cement
- Doors
- Fittings

The following are examples of where Product Types are displayed on a test Trade Portal site, upon selecting **Products**, then any of the Product Categories.

- When adding a Product Type in ProStix, the type of value must be unique, it must be no longer than 12 characters, and special characters should be avoided.
- When adding a Product Type Description in ProStix it must be no longer than 40 characters, and special characters should be avoided.
