Mail Merge is the process of combining the text of a standard document with some variable text. For example, generating personalised letters to many people that contain the same body of text. The name and address details and maybe  account balance information are the only variable items between two letters.  Two files are used for this process – the Main Document which contains the standard text and the Data Source which contains the variable text. The information contained in the Data Source is separated into fields such as Cust Name,  Address 1 and so on. These fields are called Merge Fields. They are inserted into the Main Document and you must indicate where each field name's data is to be positioned when the merge takes place.  The merge process creates a third file – one letter or document for each record in the Data Source with the inserted information neatly in place.  The main steps in performing a Mail Merge are:
