Accumulators can be likened to buckets in that they keep storing more information until they are emptied.  Detail (type D ) or summary row (type S ) have five levels of sub-totalling or accumulators.  While ever an accumulator has a value of 'Y', information that is added to that accumulator accrues along with any other information that is stored in the accumulator.  Once there is a total row (type T ) and the accumulator has been stipulated, that accumulator is reset to zero. For example, 2 rows have a total of 100 and the accumulators are set to ' Y '. If a total row (type T ) is input with accumulator 1, that accumulator is reset to zero while accumulators 2, 3, 4 and 5 still has the value 100 stored in them.
