Goal: Tariff codes are used for classifying products according to the percentage of duties & taxes to be paid when these products are imported.  The international tariff code is used and can be assigned against product groups and products so that duties can be applied to a product for customs importing purposes. Steps: From the ProStix Main Menu select ' System Administration ' - ' Configuration ' - ' Miscellaneous Tables ' - ' Import Data ' - ' Tariff Codes '. The list of  Tariff   Codes  can be edited using the standard <F5> Delete, <F6> Add and <F7> Change facilities. Note: any deletion will require a secondary <F5> to confirm deletion or any other key to cancel deletion.  Although the tariff code is comprised of all integer values, the field within the database is not an integer. It is a character since the tariff code needs to be formatted into the international harmonised format 9999.99.99. This program will only use the format 99999999, however in any reports or customs documents, the international harmonised format of 9999.99.99 will have to be used. The tariff duty entry frame can be accessed by pressing/clicking <F7> on a tariff and then pressing <Enter>. For more details, see the points below. The  Sequence   Number  within the duty entry frame becomes critical for the scenario where duties are cumulative on each other. The first sequence number when adding new records will be 10 and the next sequence number when adding another duty record to the same tariff will be 20. You may change these sequence numbers to any other integer value that hasn't been used within the tariff. Increments of 10 have been used so that additional duties or order of duties may be easily changed at a later date. The  Cumulative  flag indicates if the duty upon the tariff should be only applied to the products base value or to the base value plus any duties on the tariff with a lower sequence number. In order to implement tariff codes,  Product   Group   Maintenance  has been modified to add a tariff code field. The tariff code is used for calculating duties. If a tariff code is assigned to a product then the tariff code on the product will be used in lieu of the tariff code assigned to the product group. Products  may require an optional tariff code so that various duties assigned to the tariff will be applied to that product for customs importing documents. If a product does not have a tariff code assigned, then the product will inherit the tariff code assigned to the product group when calculating duties. Review:   You can now: Define tariff codes.
