Business Requirement  To provide branches with the ability to register requirements for products and then for a central ordering function to collect those requirements and to raise purchase orders against suppliers with whom special deals for pricing and delivery have been arranged. The products are delivered to a central warehouse and distributed to the branches based on their original requirements. The original intention was that the warehouse would hold no stock and would be a Cross-Dock facility, although the reality is that the warehouse does hold a large amount of stock as a result of bulk ordering to get good pricing, and to provide quick delivery to branches for products that have long lead times from suppliers.  Overview  The CDF is supplementary to the Central Purchasing facility (CPF) module which is part of the core ProStix system. Purchase orders are raised through central purchasing with the option of the purchase order to be delivered to the CDF or direct to the branch. There is a third option of delivery to the end customer, which is limited to items that are purchased as a result of being linked to a sales order that has a 'Direct delivery' despatch method. The CDF operation is only concerned with those orders that are marked for delivery to the CDF.  Basic Steps   The basic steps for the CDF procedure are as follows:  Once purchase order creation has been completed, all products requested for supply via the CDF are delivered from the suppliers to the CDF. Goods received during each day are distributed to a section of the CDF warehouse for despatch to the requesting branches each night.  The theory of the CDF is to have a clear floor at the end of each day. To achieve this high level of stock turn-around, a high importance is placed on the control and tracking of stock through the CDF.  Purchase order receipting can be performed using Portable Data Terminals with bar code scanners in the Central Distribution Facility to receive an order line by line and scanning a put-away location for each product received.  Portable Data Terminals are used to scan and record all product movement from receipting through to despatch.          System Setup  This facility is feature controlled via ' FeatureCDF '. Please contact Sterland Computing if you wish to use this feature. Branch maintenance provides a field that indicates if the branch is the CDF. So products should have CPF set to 'yes' and branches should have both CPF and CDF set to 'yes'.   It should be noted that the CDF relies on 'dynamic' locations (sysbrn.loc_ctrl = 'yes'). The difference between dynamic locations and static locations is dynamic locations keep stock by locations. If a product stock level in a dynamic location reduces to zero, the itmloc record is deleted and that product is no longer shown as being found in that location. Static locations are manually maintained by the user.  Due to the fact that dynamic locations keep stock levels, it is vitally important that stock receipting into the CDF branch and despatch from the CDF branch utilise the CDF options provided as only these functions manipulate the stock levels in the locations. Standard stock receipting and sales invoicing do not maintain location stock levels, so use of these functions causes the CDF stocks to go out of balance. Sales orders are not processed at the CDF branch.  Stock data maintenance provides a  CDF  field (itembr.cdf) to indicate the default setting for whether the product is delivered through the CDF. There is also a  CDF   Lead  field (itembr.cdf_lead) to indicate the additional delay in delivery to be considered in re- ordering due to the overhead of processing through the CDF. These two fields are only available for update if the product is flagged as being centrally purchased.  There is a setting in the device maintenance screen to allow for a default procedure to run. This field can be used for the PDTs. When a user logs in on a PDT, they run program inv301r.w instead of the normal ProStix menus. this is due to the fact that the PDT screens are 16 lines by 40 characters wide.
