A feature of trading electronically using UN/EDIFACT standards is that control messages (functional acknowledgements) can be used to confirm the receipt of messages by the message recipient.  ProStix currently tracks the state of sent and received documents, of which UN/EDIFACT messages are an example, through a number of layers or document statuses as follows:  ProStix has been enhanced to both send and receive such control messages and to update the status of the document within the ETM module to indicate to the end-users of the system that control messages have been sent / received.   When a control file is received a notification event can be raised alerting the user that a document has been received.  If a trading partner is marked as either having to send or receive a control message (functional acknowledgement), then all ETM documents sent or received to or from them have an acknowledgement (with the exception of inbound control messages).  In order to control whether we are expecting to send or retrieve control messages to/from suppliers and customers, a new menu item has been created under -  'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM System Setup' then 'Control Message Options'.  When you select this menu option you are presented with a screen where you can separately specify for each entity (yes/no) whether to 'Send Ack' & 'Receive Ack'. This information is then used by the ETM Input and Output engines to send/receive control messages.  ETM Input Engine   When an input control message is received, we mark on the original document that the control message for it has been acknowledged. Any control message that has either been sent or received is recorded in the log entry. Upon the input of a control message for the acknowledgement of a previously sent document, an email notification of the successful receipt of an acknowledgement is sent to a specified user using the notify on success functionality for ETM Input Location rules.  ETM Output Engine   When a document is sent out via the ETM Output engine, the output engine needs to check if a functional acknowledgement (control message) is required. In order to determine if the document requires an acknowledgement, the ETM Output Engine looks for the trading partner record for the document being sent. If the trading partner has the 'Expecting Acknowledgement' flag set to 'Yes', then the ETM Transaction record is marked accordingly. Its acknowledgement flag is set to 'No' (the initial value for this flag is ?). Displaying the Current Acknowledgement status   From the ProStix Main Menu select  'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM Output Control' then 'Track Output Documents'. This option has been modified to show the acknowledgement status of that document. The change also appears within  'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM Input Control' then 'Track Input Documents'  since they are both sharing the same screen. The difference are that input documents always have the 'Acknowledgement Received' flag set to ' ? '.  ETM Document Tracking Purge   The ETM Document Tracking Purge program has been modified to display additional information within the warning message regarding the effect that purging ETM Transactions have on Functional Acknowledgements -  There is an option to override this to cater for the scenario where an entity is accidentally setup for acknowledgements, but is never going to receive them - these transactions sit there forever without the override option.  Control Message Structure There are key elements of the Control Message that we use and create when we send out our own functional acknowledgements. ProStix deals with the input of an XML control message and the generation of the output XML message.  Control Message Validation   For the creation of the  outbound  XML message, no validation is required.  When receiving an  inbound  control message via ETM Input, the message's OriginalDocumentNo will be cross referenced against the ETM tracking log's document reference. The messages document type is validated against the tracking log's document type. If a matching document tracking message is found a final check is made to ensure the entity who has been set-up to receive the acknowledgement document type is flagged to receive acknowledgements.  Setup:   To bring control messages in you need to set up:  1. From the  ProStix Main Menu  select 'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM Input Control' then 'Input Formats'  and create an input format with document id CONTROL-MESSAGE-IN:  2. From the  ProStix Main Menu  select 'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM Input Control' then 'Input Locations'  and create an input location:  3. Select <F9> to add an appropriate import rule.  4. From the  ProStix Main Menu  select 'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM Input Control' then 'Scheduled Imports'  and schedule the import.  Scheduled Import Parameters:   5. From the  ProStix Main Menu  select 'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM System Setup' then 'Control Message Options'  and set  Send Ack  and  Receive Ack  for the supplier to 'Yes'.   To send control messages you need to setup:  1. From the  ProStix Main Menu  select 'Electronic Trade Module' then 'ETM Output Control' then Output Document Setting' .
