(Unix/Linux sites)? ANSWER: To download and Upgrade Service Packs, there are 6 steps you need to follow. Refer to the collapsible links below: Version 4.7 and higher are controlled releases and are now supplied by Support as and when you apply to upgrade your system. Once file is received from Sterland support, copy the file to the ProStix server under the /prostix/dmp directory. This is normally done via a Windows share. Option 2: download a service pack directly to a customer's Linux server from onsite (again this will be completed by support as and when you apply to upgrade your system: Download Service pack from onsite With any service pack, basic system testing in Demo is required to ensure there are no issues when your Live system is upgraded. This testing is best performed with the most recent data from your Live system, hence the need to perform a copy Live to Demo. 1. Instructions for copying Live to Demo for Unix / Linux can be found here: How do I copy Live to Demo (Unix/Linux)? 2. Or for Windows sites, here: SYS: How do I copy Live to Demo (Windows)? If you a running ProStix GUI, you need to use emulation software such as TinyTerm or Putty , as per your existing configuration. Pre-Requisites: First check the Demo system to see if there any hotfixes dated later than the pack you are about to install. To upgrade your Demo system, perform the following: 1. Log in to your Demo database. 2. Check your audit log for any recent hotfixes. i. From the ProStix Main Menu select ' System Administration' then ' Security' then ' Audit log Enquiries'. ii. Select ' S ervice Log' from the Options menu. iii. Refer to the date of the hotfixes and compare to the date of the service pack you are downloading. If the hotfix is dated later than the service pack, you need to reinstall this hotfix after you upgrade the pack. iv. Exit from your Prostix Demo session by pressing <F4>, returning to ProMenu. 3. Select ProMenu option 10 (UNIX Shell) to drop back to a Unix command line. 4. Type ' su' then select <Enter>.  This command switches you to be the system super user - called root.  A prompt comes up asking for the root password.  Type the appropriate password then select <Enter>. 5. Type ' umask 0 ' to set the default file creation permissions to full read-write.    6. Type ' cd /prostix/demo' then select <Enter>.  This command changes you into the  /prostix/demo directory 7. Type ' tar xvf  /prostix/dmp/ filename .tar' then select <Enter>. Substitute the filename.tar with the appropriate filename of the pack that was downloaded in first step of this procedure.   8. This command unpacks the upgrade pack saved under the prostix/dmp directory across to the /prostix/demo directory.  9. Type ' startdemrx' then select <Enter>.  This brings up the ProStix compiler. 10. Check that the Instance = demo , then select <Enter>.   You will see a message asking if you wish to continue. Make sure everyone is logged off from your database , then select 'Yes ' to continue with the upgrade. 11. At the end of the upgrade process the following prompt will come up:  'The Install process has detected that you are using storage areas to separate your database. However, some tables exist in the schema area, which should be moved to another storage area for efficiency. These may have been added during this update. Press Enter to view a list of these tables.' 12. Select <enter>. The Tables in schema area will now display. Select <F4>. 13. When complete, the following message will appear:  'Press ENTER to view compile log...'       14. Select <Enter>. 15. Check the report for any errors or warnings.   Please copy and forward any error messages or warnings to Sterland support .  If there are errors or warnings do not load the pack into your Live database until advised by Sterland Support that it is safe to do so.  If there are no errors or warnings then proceed to do your basic system testing in Demo. There is no definitive list for testing. A common sense approach is to test the key areas of ProStix that are used on a daily basis.  For example Point of Sale (POS) should be tested and the POS docket printing checked to make sure there are no issues.  Sales/Job processing should be tested and Picking Slip, Quote & Delivery Docket printing checked. The same applies to Purchasing, Invoice and Statement printing.  The aim of this testing is to ensure that the upgrade into Live is not going to disrupt any key areas of the software that are critical in the day to day running of the business. This is a repeat of step 2 of this procedure.  This copy should be performed immediately before the upgrade to Live is performed.  This copy then acts as a backup.  Access to Demo should then be restricted until the time that the Live upgrade has successfully been completed. The Live upgrade can only be performed outside of trading hours.  It is essential that all users are logged off or disconnected via Promenu option 22 (Disconnect Users) . To upgrade Live, perform the following: 1. Select Promenu option 10 (UNIX Shell) to drop back to a Unix command line. 2. Type ' su' then select <Enter>.  This command switches you to be the system super user - called root.  A prompt comes up asking for the root password.  Type the appropriate password then select <Enter>. 3. Type ' umask 0 ' to set the default file creation permissions to full read-write.    4. Type ' cd /prostix/live' then select <Enter>.  This command changes you into the /prostix/live directory. 5. Type ' tar xvf  /prostix/dmp/ filename .tar' then select <Enter>.  This command unpacks the upgrade pack saved under the /prostix/dmp directory across to the /prostix/live directory.  Please substitute filename.tar with the appropriate filename of the pack that was downloaded in first step of this procedure. 6. Type ' startrx' then select <Enter>.  This brings up the ProStix compiler. 7. Check that the Instance = live, then select <Enter>.  Check that the ProStix Xcode Dir = /prostix/live/xcode.  Check that the Prostix LIB Dir = /prostix/live/lib, then select <F1> to start the upgrade process. 8. At the end of the upgrade process select <Enter> to view the compile report.  If any errors or warnings please screen print and advise Sterland Support immediately.   You can also change the name of your Live and Demo database to reflect the new version number you have just downloaded.
