# Overview

The Document Storage function allows you to automatically attach PDF copies of customer invoices and order confirmations to transactions within Frameworks. These documents can then be accessed directly from the transaction, customer dashboard or enquiry screens.

## How it works

Once everything is set up:

- When you print or email an invoice or order confirmation, a PDF copy is automatically stored.
- The document appears in the **Attachments** section of the transaction.
- You can also see it from the **Customer Dashboard** or **Transaction Enquiry** screens.

# Document Storage Setup

To use automatic storage, a few things need to be in place.

## 1. DOCSTORAGE API licence Key

> ⚠️ **Important: **The **DOCSTORAGE API** is required to be enabled under the **Frameworks Licence Maintenance **screen.

- Under **Frameworks License Maintenance**, from the **Type** dropdown menu select **API **and click **Find**
- In the **Results **grid, **DOCSTORAGE **with the a description of **/api/v1/attachment/create **should be visible.
- Click on the hypelink to confirm there is a **Licence Key**.

## 2. Set up cloud storage (for on-premise only)

To enable the enhanced attachment storage in an on‑premise environment, you’ll need to configure access to an AWS S3 storage solution.

The setup includes:

1. [Create an Amazon S3 bucket](https://frameworks-kb.refined.site/space/FRAM/28377956/Setting+up+AWS+S3+buckets+to+store+Frameworks+Attachments#Creating-an-AWS-S3-Bucket) for Frameworks to use.
2. [Enter the bucket details and credentials](https://frameworks-kb.refined.site/space/FRAM/28377956/Setting+up+AWS+S3+buckets+to+store+Frameworks+Attachments#Setting-up-Attachments-to-use-S3-Buckets) into the Frameworks system configuration.

> ℹ️ **Note**: Cloud hosted environments already have this configured.

## 3. Enable document storage

To enable which documents are to be stored, open the **Print Document Configuration **window and enable the **Doc Storage** options.

> ❌ Only documents configured to use XML can enable Document Storage.
