# Overview

A kit refers to a product made up of a combination of several products that are subsequently sold as a single product.

> **For example**, a kit product may consist of 8 units of product A, 1 unit of product B, and 4 units of product C.

When setting up the Kit product, the kit can be defined as an **Exploding** kit, a **Non-Exploding** kit, a **Template** kit, or an **Assembly** kit, depending on the functionality required. For example, the components may list on the invoice, or the kit may be predefined, built out as it is added to an order, or used as the front-end for a custom-manufactured product. Once the kit header is created, individual products and quantities are defined as component parts of the Kit.

> ⚠️ Kit components cannot be updated, deleted, or otherwise modified if they are included on an active Sales Order.
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ A Kit Header cannot be set up as a parent product.

# Kit Types

### Exploding

**Exploding** kit products explode the kit into its components at **Sales Orders** and **Purchase Orders** entry. Once exploded, the system individually lists all the kit components on the customer sales invoice or docket. Once the components are exploded onto the transaction, they behave like any other normal product, and no further kit functionality applies.

### Non-Exploding (Stocked)

**Non-Exploding (Stocked)** kit products are defined as a normal stocked product (product type = 0). The kit **must be assembled** because stock levels are adjusted for the Kit product when a sale is made.

### Non-Exploding (Non-Stocked)

**Non-Exploding (Non-Stocked)** kit products are defined as a non-stocked product (product type = 1). Stock levels are **not maintained** for the actual Kit product. When a sale is made, stock levels are only adjusted for the component products, not the kit product itself.

### Template

**Template** kit products (also known as "Kits on the Fly") allow you to add a kit at **Sales Orders** entry and then choose and add the required components that make up the kit at the time of product entry, including special products and special buy-ins. Kit pricing can also be adjusted.

> ⚠️ **Template** kit product headers cannot be added to Point of Sale transactions, Branch Transfer Sales Orders, Branch Transfer Purchase Orders, Standard Purchase Orders or Purchase Requisitions. The individual components of a **Template** kit can still be added.

### Assembly [Version 6.2.26R2+]

**Assembly** kit products act as the front-end product on a sales order for a custom-manufactured item, such as a custom door. When a sales order containing an Assembly kit is marked complete, Frameworks converts the kit into a unique Special Assembly Product with locked componentry, and creates Assembly tasks against the linked process model so the work flows through to Process Management.

Assembly kits are compatible only with the **non-exploding** kit configuration. The kit is not itself a stocked product — it acts as a template that is instantiated each time it is ordered, and the original kit definition remains untouched.

## Related System Flags

The following system flags affect Kit Maintenance behaviour:

**FWSOFKitComp** — Enables expanding non-exploding kits to show componentry in the Sales Order Fulfilment screen.

**InvRctKDA** — Enables disassembly of non-stocked kits at receipt.

**SOPPS20Kit** — Enables printing of components on picking slips for all non-exploding kits.
