# How to Create a New Contact

To create a new contact, complete the following:

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **System Administration** > **System Tables** > **Contacts** from the navigation tree.

> ⚠️ You can also create new contacts within the **Contact Details** section of the [Customer Dashboard ](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28378750) and the **Contacts **section of the [Supplier Dashboard](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28397304).

2. Click **New Contact** to open the **Contact Popup Maintenance** window and create a new contact.
3. Fill in the necessary fields within the **Contact Popup Maintenance** window. The following fields are required to create the contact:
  - **Name**: Fill in the contact name.
  - **Table**: Select either **Customer**, **Supplier** or **Miscellaneous**
  - **Link**: Visible if **Customer** or **Supplier** is selected in the **Table** field. Link to an existing customer or supplier.
  - **Contact Type**: Select a contact type from the available options.

> ⚠️ You can only have one **Main** and **Principal** contact for a supplier or customer. If you do attempt to create a second **Main** or **Principal** contact, you will receive an error stating '*Contact Type [Main] already exists for Customer [nnnnn]'*. You are able to add multiple **Secondary** contacts.

| **Field** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| **ID** | Automatically calculated. This is the unique ID number for the contact. |
| **Name** | Type the first name and surname of the contact. |
| **Home Phone** | Type the home telephone number of the contact. |
| **Mobile Phone** | Type the mobile telephone number of the contact. |
| **Business Phone** | Type the business telephone number of the contact. |
| **Fax Number** | Type the business fax number of the contact. |
| **Email** | Type the business email address of the contact. |
| **Barcode** | Type the barcode for the contact. |
| **Table** | Select the type of contact from the drop-down menu.<br>- Select **Customer** if the contact is part of a customer's account.
- Select **Supplier** if contact is part of a supplier's account.
- Select **Misc** if contact is for neither a customer or supplier but one in which you still wish to hold details. |
| **Link** | Select the customer or supplier the contact is to be linked to via the **Search** button. |
| **Contact Type** | Select the appropriate **Contact Type** from the drop-down menu. |

4. Click **Add** to add an attribute to the contact. Complete the following:
  - Use the **Search** icon to select a **Category** and **Name** for the attribute.
  - Fill in the **Value** field with the relevant information.

> ⚠️ - This can be used to store some personal information relating to the customer such as their birthday.
> ⚠️ - Relevant attributes with **Auto Add** enabled will be automatically added to the contact's attributes upon the contact's creation. This can be changed within [Define Attributes ](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28382778).

5. Click **Save/Close** to create the contact.

> ⚠️ Once a contact has been created, the contact information is displayed in the **Customer Dashboard **or **Supplier Dashboard** as appropriate.
