# Prerequisites for processing Gift Cards at Point Of Sale

Ensure you have the following setup before completing the below steps.

## 1. Set up a Gift Card Product

To be able to sell a gift card at Point of Sale (POS) you will need to create a new product. When creating the product in [Product Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28378114) ensure you have selected **Miscellaneous **from the **Product Type** drop-down menu.

> ℹ️ **Additional Options**:
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ - Create a **GIFT **[Create and Maintain Product Groups](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CO/pages/30524324).
> ℹ️ - Define the Unit of Measure (UOM) as **each**.
> ℹ️ - For the **Unit Sell **price you could add the required value or leave as $0 to enter the value at time of sale.

## 2. Define a Refund Type "Gift Card"

A **refund reason code** is required when you "load" money onto the gift card. This is defined via **Miscellaneous Table Maintenance** **> Reason Codes - Reason for Refund Codes**.

## 3. Create a GIFT Tender Type

A **Tender Type **with the code **GIFT **is required to link the tender type to the Gift Card button in the tendering screen and the **Is** **a Gift Card** checkbox needs to be enabled to prompt the system to use Eftpos.
