The **Attribute Maintenance** screen allows you to attach, view and remove attributes on individual **Customer**, **Supplier**, **Product** and **Contact** records. The attribute definitions available on this screen are created and maintained in **Define Attributes**.

> ✅ For background on what attributes are, how they behave and how different features use them, see [Understanding Attributes](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/880607237).
> ✅
> ✅ To attach, update or remove attribute values on many records at once instead of one at a time, see [Attribute Export/Import](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/1124564999).

## Screen Access

From the **Frameworks Menu**, navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Configuration > Attribute Maintenance**.

The **Attribute Maintenance** screen is organised into three main sections:

1. **Record List**: Filter by type, search for a record, and browse existing records in the results grid.
2. **Attribute Maintenance Details**: Add, view or remove attributes on the selected record.
3. **Command Buttons**: Save, cancel or close.

## Record List

The **Record List** section filters records by type, provides the entry point for searching a specific record, and displays matching records in the results grid.

### Type

The **Type** drop-down menu selects which record type to search. Selecting a type activates the corresponding search field below and greys out the others.

Available values:

- **Customer**: Attach attributes to customer records.
- **Supplier**: Attach attributes to supplier records.
- **Product**: Attach attributes to product records.
- **Contact**: Attach attributes to customer contact records.

**Format:** Drop-down menu | **Required:** Yes | **Editable:** Yes | **Related fields:** The **Type** value determines which search field below is active, **Customer**, **Supplier**, **Product** or **Contact**.

### Customer / Supplier / Product / Contact Search Field

The search field below the **Type** drop-down menu activates based on the **Type** selection. Only the field matching the selected type is active; the others are greyed out.

In the active field, enter the record's name or ID, or click the **Search** icon to open the **Finder** window and select the record. Leave the field blank to return all records of the selected type.

**Format:** Text (alphanumeric search) | **Required:** No | **Editable:** Only the field matching the selected **Type** | **Related fields:** The **Type** value determines which of the four search fields is active.

### Find

The **Find** button updates the results grid with all records matching the selected **Type** and search field value.

**Action:** Click **Find** to populate the results grid.

### Results Grid

The results grid displays all records matching the search. It has two columns:

- **ID**: Displays the record's ID. The **ID** value is a hyperlink that loads the selected record into the **Attribute Maintenance Details** section.
- **Name/Desc**: Displays the record's name or description.

**Action:** Click the **ID** hyperlink to load the record's attributes into **Attribute Maintenance Details**.

> ✅ Refer to [Advanced Grid Features](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/fwksproau/pages/30509842) for information on filtering, sorting and column selection.

## Attribute Maintenance Details

![image-20260917-004255.png](media://a9361ae4-6b41-4189-ba56-f535f21986fb)

The **Attribute Maintenance Details** section displays the attributes attached to the selected record and provides the controls to add or remove them. The record's **Name** or **Description** appears at the top of the section, for example, `DISHWASHER 60CM BUILT IN`.

### Attributes Grid

The **Attributes** grid lists every attribute currently attached to the selected record. Each row records one attribute value against the record.

The grid has three columns:

- **Category**: The category the attribute definition belongs to. Set on the attribute definition in **Define Attributes**.
- **ID**: The attribute's field name. Set on the attribute definition in **Define Attributes**.
- **Value**: The value stored against the record for this attribute. Entered when the attribute is added, or edited in place.

**Format:** Grid | **Editable:** The **Value** field is editable in place. **Category** and **ID** are set when adding a new attribute row.

**Tip:** The **Value** field supports HTML tags to control how the text displays wherever the attribute is used. For example, `<h2>` applies heading styling, `<br>` starts a new line, and `<b>` or `<i>` apply bold or italic formatting.

### Add

The **Add** button creates a new attribute row on the selected record. Enter the **Category** and **ID**, or click the **Search** icon in each field to open the relevant **Finder** window, then enter the **Value**.

**Action:** Click **Add**, then complete the **Category**, **ID** and **Value** fields.

> ❌ If the attribute definition has **Allow Multiple** disabled, only one row is permitted per **Category** and **ID** combination on a record. Attempting to add a second row for the same combination is rejected with *"Attribute cannot have multiple values for the same ID."* Edit the existing row instead.

> ✅ Refer to [Add an Attribute](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28385784) for the full process.

### Remove

The **Remove** button deletes the selected attribute row from the record.

**Action:** Select the attribute row, then click **Remove**.

---

## Command Buttons

The **Command Buttons** section saves changes to the selected record, cancels unsaved changes, or closes the screen. **Save** and **Cancel** are only active when there are unsaved changes.

### Save

The **Save** button commits all changes made to the selected record's attributes.

**Action:** Click **Save** to commit changes.

### Cancel

The **Cancel** button discards any unsaved changes to the selected record and reloads the last saved state.

**Action:** Click **Cancel** to discard changes.

### Close

The **Close** button closes the **Attribute Maintenance** screen. Any unsaved changes are prompted before closing.

**Action:** Click **Close** to exit the screen.
