# Overview

**Analysis Account Maintenance** allows you to attach an Analysis Code to a specified General Ledger account.

Once an Analysis Code is attached to a General Ledger account, Frameworks tracks the transactions entered against that code in the General Ledger transaction details. You can report on each code to provide a more detailed breakdown of account activity.

For example, you might have General Ledger account codes for Miscellaneous Motor Vehicle Expenses, Petrol, and Motor Vehicle Insurance. You could attach an Analysis Code for each vehicle - such as the registration number - and then report on the total expenses for a particular vehicle.

An Analysis Code can be attached to multiple GL Accounts and vice versa.

> ℹ️ Whether an analysis code must be entered on journal lines for an account depends on the **GLAnalysisCodeReq** system flag. When the flag is enabled (the default), entry of an analysis code is mandatory for any account that has codes registered against it. When the flag is disabled, analysis codes are optional and users can leave the field blank or enter any valid code, regardless of account registration. This setting applies system-wide across all companies in the Frameworks instance. Refer to [General Ledger Related System Settings](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28408790) for configuration details.

## Attach an Analysis Code to a GL Account

Link an Analysis Code to a GL Account so that Frameworks tracks transactions entered against that code for the account.

> 📝 ### Prerequisites
> 📝
> 📝 - The Analysis Code exists in [GL Table Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28385052).
> 📝 - The GL Account exists in the chart of accounts.

### Steps

1. From the **Frameworks Menu**, navigate to **General Ledger - Maintenance > Analysis Account Maintenance**.
2. Click **New**.

3. In the **Analysis Code** field, enter the Analysis Code or use the search icon to locate it. The field displays the code and description together - for example, KERAT - K Rattray 1VN-3LT.
4. In the **GL Account** field, enter the GL Account number or use the search icon to locate it.
5. Click **Save**.

### Result

The Analysis Code is registered against the GL Account. When **GLAnalysisCodeReq** is enabled, Frameworks will require this code to be entered on journal lines for that account.
