The GL Period Close process closes the current General Ledger and Accounts Payable accounting period and advances to the next period. Running the GL Period Close also captures a snapshot of each supplier's account balances to support historical creditors reporting through the **Supplier History** screen and the **Creditors Aged Trial Balance From History** report.

> 📝 ## Prerequisites
> 📝
> 📝 - All transactions for the current period have been completed and posted. The GL Period Close is typically run around the 15th of the following month once all unposted batches have been processed.
> 📝 - All standing journals intended for the period have been copied, updated and posted.
> 📝 - The user has appropriate security access to run the GL Period Close Scheduler.

## Close a GL Period - Steps

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **General Ledger > Transaction Processing > GL Period Close Scheduler**.
2. On the **Report Criteria** tab, confirm the **Company**, **Current Period** and **New Period** fields are correct. The **Current Period** displays the current open accounting period and the **New Period** displays the next period the system will advance to. These fields are not editable.
3. Enable the **Perform close?** checkbox to confirm you want to proceed with closing the period.
4. Click **Submit** to run the GL Period Close.
5. Once completed, review the **Output** tab to confirm the GL period has been successfully closed.

## Result

The current GL period is closed and the system advances to the new period. Transactions can no longer be posted to the closed period (except journal entries by users with the **Post to Closed Period** security flag enabled in **User Maintenance**). A snapshot of each supplier's account balances is captured for the closed period, making the data available through the **Supplier History** screen on the **Supplier Dashboard** and the **Creditors Aged Trial Balance From History** report.

## Additional Notes

- The GL Period Close is now run as a scheduled task through the **GL Period Close Scheduler**, replacing the previous **GL Period Close** screen. It is recommended to run the GL Period Close as a one-off task rather than on an ongoing schedule.
- The **Perform close?** checkbox must be enabled before clicking **Submit**. If the checkbox is not enabled, the task will not process the period close.
- If the GL Period Close is re-run for the same period (for example, after resetting a company), the system purges any existing supplier history snapshot records for that period before creating new ones.
- The supplier history snapshot should balance to the Trade Creditors General Ledger account for the closed period.
- Standing journals saved as drafts act as templates for recurring entries and are not automatically posted during the GL Period Close. Only posted journals affect the General Ledger.
