# How to Search General Ledger Accounts

To search for a GL Account ID to then view details, from the home **Dashboard** perform the following:

1. Click the **GL Dashboard** icon.

> ℹ️ The right side of the GL Dashboard displays **Recently Selected** GL Account IDs. Simply click the hyperlink to view (and in some cases maintain) GL Account ID information.

2. There are two search options a **Basic **and **Advanced **search.
  1. **Basic Search:** Click **Find **to search All GL Accounts for your default Company. If your site is multi-company, from the **company **dropdown menu select a specific company you want to search.
  2. **Advanced Search: **Clicking on the **Advanced Search Criteria** heading will open up additional search options to help you further refine down your search even more.
    For Single Company access these options are:
    - **Account From and To**: Enter a GL Account Number range for the GL accounts you are looking for.
    - **Category**: From the Category dropdown menu select the category type you want to refine your search too.
    For Multi-Company access a **Company **dropdown menu will also be available.

> ℹ️ You can refine your search by:
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ - Using the **Search **field and entering the **Account Number, GL Name** (or partial GL account name) or and **External Reference.**
> ℹ️ - Using the **Company** dropdown, and selecting **All Companies, **the search will load the data for all companies that the user has access to. Users are setup with access to a single company, all companies (multi_company) or a selected list of companies.

3. Once the results are displayed, click the relevant **Acct ID **link to view summary and associated transaction information for the chosen GL account including account details and balances, GL transactions, source transactions and journals.
