# Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about Windcave. Please click on a heading below for more information:

> **How does Windcave EFTPOS work with Frameworks?**
>
> Windcave runs a client application in the background on the PC that controls the PIN pad device. This application manages the communication between the PIN pad and the Windcave webservice.
>
> Frameworks utilises an API to send payment information to the Windcave webservice for processing. In Frameworks, you define a new tender type specifically for Windcave EFTPOS. The API information is then entered into Frameworks to establish the communication between the software and the Windcave service. If needed, multiple tender types can be configured for different accounts, such as separate accounting for various branches or businesses. Finally, the PIN pad is configured in the PIN Pad Maintenance section of Frameworks to use the designated tender type you have created.

> **Can I use a hybrid solution with another provider (such as Linkly) or does everything have to change to Windcave?**
>
> If you are running Frameworks as an on-premise solution, you have the flexibility to utilize a hybrid system, which means you don't have to switch everything over to Windcave at once. Both Windcave and another provider like Linkly can coexist within your solution, but it's important to note that a single device cannot run both systems simultaneously.
>
> When using a hybrid solution, you have the option to select the desired EFTPOS tender type from the tender screen as a payment option. If needed, an additional EFTPOS button can be added to the tender screen to make both EFTPOS payment options easily accessible.

> **I’m using an iPad or Android tablet to service customers throughout my store, do I need to change devices to use Windcave?**
>
> No, you don't need to change devices to use Windcave if you are currently using an iPad or Android tablet to serve customers in your store.
>
> With Windcave, you can run the EFTPOS service connected to your PIN Pad from a separate Windows PC and using a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G enabled Windcave device (PIN Pad) can take payments, providing you with wireless freedom.
>
> **Note: **Any Windows PC that doesn't control any other PIN Pad can be used to control the Windcave device, while multiple POS terminals can utilise the Windcave EFTPOS service.
>
> If you prefer to replace the iPad with a Windows tablet running the Windcave EFTPOS service, that would allow you to maintain a direct association between the two devices.
>
> It's important to note that other providers like Linkly do not offer this same flexibility, as their PIN Pad and PCs have a one-to-one connection option only.

> **Do we need to change Frameworks versions to allow Windcave?**
>
> The minimum Frameworks version required to allow Windcave payments is 5.13. If you are running an earlier version of Frameworks, please contact your Sterland representative to discuss your upgrade options.

> **What are the costs involved with moving to Windcave?**
>
> We will provide you with a referral link to Windcave, where you can discuss various options affecting the cost of the solution. Windcave will help you identify the best solution for your use case, such as wired Ethernet or USB attached terminals, wireless WiFi and 3G/4G wireless options which can be moved around and shared between machines. You can even have a combination of both throughout a branch.
>
> For 3G/4G devices, there is a need to have a SIM card with a data plan installed which is provided by Windcave. The costs involved are comparable to other payment providers.
