Configure stocktake security to control which users can progress a stocktake through its lifecycle. Stocktake security is managed through the **Stocktake Supervisor** permission, which determines whether a user can access the stocktake header buttons and the **Abandon Stocktake** option.

**Who performs this:** System Administrator  
**When to configure:** During implementation, or when setting up users who will run stocktakes.  
**Impact:** Determines which users can access the stocktake header buttons and the **Abandon Stocktake** option.

> 📝 - Administrator access to **User Maintenance**.
> 📝 - The users who will act as stocktake supervisors are known.
> 📝 - The stocktake activities have been added to the relevant users. Refer to the Stocktake Activities section of the **Configure Stocktake Security** page.

## Configuration Steps

1. From the **Frameworks Menu**, navigate to **System Administration > Users & Security > User Maintenance**.
2. Search for and open the user to be configured as a stocktake supervisor.
3. Enable the **Stocktake Supervisor** permission for the user.

4. Click **Save** to apply the permission.

## Result

The user is configured as a stocktake supervisor. A stocktake supervisor can access all of the stocktake header buttons - **Start**, **Lock**, **Complete Count**, **Validate**, **Reopen**, **Reverse**, **Apply** and **Close** - and can abandon a stocktake using the **Abandon Stocktake** option on the **Actions** menu.

A standard user without the **Stocktake Supervisor** permission can access the **Actions** menu options, such as **Mass Add**, **Batch Edit** and the import options, but cannot access the header buttons or the **Abandon Stocktake** option.

## Configuration Options

### Stocktake Supervisor Permission

**When to use:** For users who need to start, lock, complete, validate, reopen, apply, reverse, close or abandon a stocktake.

**Settings:**

- Enable the **Stocktake Supervisor** permission in **User Maintenance** for the user.

**Impact:** The user gains access to all stocktake header buttons and the **Abandon Stocktake** option. Without this permission, the header buttons and the **Abandon Stocktake** option are not displayed for the user, and the user can perform count entry and **Actions** menu tasks only.

## Validation

To verify the stocktake supervisor configuration:

1. Log in as the configured user and open a stocktake in the **Stocktake Maintenance** screen.
2. Confirm the header buttons (such as **Start** and **Complete Count**) are displayed for a supervisor, or hidden for a standard user.
3. Confirm the **Abandon Stocktake** option is available on the **Actions** menu for a supervisor, or hidden for a standard user.

## Troubleshooting Configuration Issues

**Problem:** A user cannot see the **Complete Count** or **Lock** buttons in the stocktake.  
**Check:**

- Confirm the **Stocktake Supervisor** permission is enabled for the user in **User Maintenance**.
- Confirm the user has logged out and back in after the permission was changed.

**Problem:** A supervisor cannot complete a stock count.  
**Check:**

- Confirm the stocktake is not locked. A stock count cannot be completed while the stocktake is locked. The supervisor must click **Unlock** first.

## Stocktake Activities

The following activities must be added to a user in **User Maintenance** (via a security group) before the user can access the related stocktake functionality:
