Product surcharges allow you to apply additional charges to products during sales transactions. There are two types of product surcharges in Frameworks:

- **Length Surcharges** apply length-specific pricing to tally products such as timber and Pipes.
- **Other Surcharges** allow you to define surcharge codes that prompt sales staff to select a surcharge when adding a product to a sales order or POS transaction.

Implementing product surcharges requires system-level configuration before product-level surcharges can be assigned. System flags control how length surcharges behave across branches, surcharge codes must be defined in **Product Surcharges** within **System Administration** before they can be applied, and surcharge values are then assigned to individual products in **Product Maintenance**.

> ⚠️ Product surcharge configuration is **not **feature-driven and does not require a specific feature to be enabled.

> 📝 **Who performs this:** System Administrator.
> 📝 **Prerequisites:** System Administrator access to **System Settings - Flags**, **Product Surcharges** (System Administration) and **Product Maintenance**.

## Implementation Sequence

This guide walks you through the complete implementation in the correct order:

1. Configure the TimSurBrn System Flag
2. Define Product Surcharge Codes
3. Configure Length Surcharges on Products
4. Configure Other Surcharges on Products

---

## Configure the TimSurBrn System Flag

The **TimSurBrn** system flag determines whether length surcharges vary by branch or apply system-wide. This flag must be configured first because it controls whether branch-specific length surcharge fields are available in **Product Maintenance**.

### Configuration Steps

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Configuration > System Settings - Flags**.
2. Locate the **TimSurBrn** flag.
3. Set the **TimSurBrn** flag
  1. Enable to allow length surcharges to vary by branch.
  2. Disable (or leave at the default disabled setting) to apply length surcharges system-wide across all branches.
4. Click **Save** to apply the change.

### Result

When **TimSurBrn** is enabled, the **Add** button in the **Length Surcharge** section of **Product Maintenance** allows you to create branch-specific length surcharges. When **TimSurBrn** is disabled, length surcharges apply to all branches and branch-specific configuration is not available.

> ⚠️ ### Important Notes
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ - For single-branch operations, leave **TimSurBrn** disabled. Branch-specific surcharges are only necessary for multi-branch businesses where length pricing varies between locations.
> ⚠️ - Changing the **TimSurBrn** flag after length surcharges have been configured may affect existing surcharge assignments. Configure the flag before defining any length surcharges.

## Define Product Surcharge Codes

![image-20260210-062000.png](media://7bcbb03a-6117-4770-9fb8-6c13495ace6c)

Product surcharge codes define the types of surcharges available for assignment to products. Surcharge codes must be created in **Product Surcharges** within **System Administration** before they can be applied to products using the **Other Surcharges** option in **Product Maintenance**.

### Configuration Steps

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Inventory > Product Surcharges**.
2. Click **Add** to create a new surcharge code.
3. In the **Company** field, enter the company code the surcharge code belongs to.
4. In the **Product Surcharge Code** field, enter a code to identify the surcharge type.
5. In the **Description** field, enter a description for the surcharge code.
6. Click **Save** to create the surcharge code.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 for each surcharge code required.

### Result

The defined surcharge codes are available for assignment to products in the **Other Surcharges** section of **Product Maintenance**. When a product with **Other Surcharges** is added to a sales order or POS transaction, the **Additional Information Required** window displays, prompting the user to select from the configured surcharge codes.

> ⚠️ ### Important Notes
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ - Create a **NONE** surcharge code with no description for each company. Assign the **NONE** code to products where a surcharge may not always apply. The **NONE** code allows sales staff to proceed without applying a surcharge when one is not required.
> ⚠️ - Surcharge codes are company-specific. If your organisation operates multiple companies in Frameworks, create the required surcharge codes for each company.

## Configure Length Surcharges on Products

Length surcharges apply length-specific pricing adjustments to tally products such as timber. Length surcharges are configured per product in **Product Maintenance** and define the surcharge value for each valid product length.

### Configuration Steps

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **Inventory > Maintenance > Product Maintenance**.
2. Search for and select the product requiring length surcharges.
3. Navigate to the **Length Surcharge** option within **Product Maintenance**.
4. If the **TimSurBrn** flag is enabled, from the **Select Branch** menu select the branch and click **Add** to configure branch-specific length surcharges. If **TimSurBrn** is disabled, click **Add** and proceed to step 5.
5. Define the surcharge value for each individual product length.
6. Click **Save** to apply the length surcharges.

### Result

The configured length surcharges are applied to the product's sell price during sales transactions. Length surcharge values are visible in the **Surcharges** section of the **Product Dashboard** for the selected product. When **TimSurBrn** is enabled, length surcharge values reflect the selected branch's pricing.

> ⚠️ ### Important Notes
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ - Length surcharges are only applicable to tally products with valid lengths configured. Non-tally products do not support length surcharges.
> ⚠️ - If **TimSurBrn** is enabled, length surcharges must be configured separately for each branch where branch-specific pricing is required.

## Configure Other Surcharges on Products

Other surcharges allow you to assign surcharge codes to products that require additional charges during sales transactions. When a product with **Other Surcharges** configured is added to a sales order or POS transaction, the **Additional Information Required** window prompts the user to select the applicable surcharge.

### Configuration Steps

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **Inventory > Maintenance > Product Maintenance**.
2. Search for and select the product requiring other surcharges.
3. Navigate to the **Other Surcharge** option within **Product Maintenance**.
4. Click **Add** to assign a surcharge code to the product.
5. From the surcharge code list, select a code as defined in **System Administration > System Setup > Inventory > Product Surcharges**.
6. Define the surcharge value for the selected code.
7. Click **Save** to apply the surcharge.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 to assign additional surcharge codes to the product as required.

### Result

When the product is added to a sales order or POS transaction, the **Additional Information Required** window displays, prompting the user to select from the assigned surcharge codes. The selected surcharge value is applied to the product's price on the transaction.

> ⚠️ ### Important Notes
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ - To allow sales staff to skip surcharge selection, assign the **NONE** surcharge code (with no surcharge value) as one of the product's **Other Surcharges** options. Without a **NONE** option, sales staff must select a surcharge code to proceed. The **NONE** code is created in **System Administration > System Setup > Inventory > Product Surcharges**.
> ⚠️ - Other surcharges display in the **Surcharges** section of the **Product Dashboard** for the selected product.
