# Overview

Product superseding is a functionality in Frameworks that allows you to manage changes and updates to your product offerings. When a product becomes obsolete or is replaced by a newer version, you can create a supersedence relationship between the old and new products. This enables you to maintain accurate stock levels, pricing, and reporting by linking the superseded product to its replacement. The superseding feature helps streamline inventory management and ensures that the correct product information is reflected in your system.

> **Use Case Example**
>
> A warehouse or supplier informs you about a product code change for certain products. This could occur due to reasons like the discontinuation of a particular product or changes in suppliers. In such cases, you would need to perform the superseding process to update the product information accordingly in Frameworks.

## What occurs during the Superseding Process?

By clicking the **Supersede **button for a product, the old product will be replaced by the new one, and the following changes will take place:

> ⚠️ Before proceeding with the product superseding process, please ensure the new product has been created in Frameworks. This is necessary as you will need to select the new product to complete the superseding process.

### Product 01 (Old)

1. Product 01 will be marked as a **Run Out** product.
2. The **Supersede **button is not available.
3. Product 02 will be stored as an **Alternate Item** for Product 01.
4. A note under **Product Information** will be added to Product 01, which reads “*Superseded by product [Product ID]*“

### Product 02 (New)

1. The Minimum (min) and Maximum (max) Branch Stock values:
  1. The min and max values will be imported from Product 01 to Product 2 if Product 02’s min and max values are NOT defined
  2. If Product 02 already has min and max values defined, these will remain.
2. The last 12 months sales history and stock movements, including the current month, will be merged over from Product 01 to Product 02.
3. Any branches linked to Product 01 that are not linked to Product 02, will be added to Product 02.

> **For example**, if Product 01 belongs to Branch 10 and Product 02 belongs to Branch 11, after the product superseding, branch 10 is added together with branch 11 on Product 02.
