# Overview

**Standard Task Maintenance** allows you to define a list of steps or tasks required to complete your Production process. These will represent each stage in the manufacturing lifecycle from quoting, through to detailing, manufacture and delivery — and from the introduction of Custom Manufacturing, the assembly of custom-manufactured items such as custom doors.

This list or table of tasks can then be grouped together to form a [process model](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28402124) which can be attached to a Job.

Refer to the following sections for information on how to create and maintain tasks within Production Scheduling:

# Creating a New Task

To create a new task, perform the following:

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Tasks > Standard Task Maintenance**.
2. Click the **Add** button to create a new task.

> ℹ️ The task # is automatically populated by default and increments by 1.

3. You will be prompted to enter the following parameters:

### Code

Enter a code for the task. The code can be a mixture of numbers and letters only.

### Description

Enter a description to further identify the task.

### Daily Capacity

Enter a daily capacity amount for the task code. The field accepts a decimal value.

### UOM

Enter a unit of measure for the task so that assigned quantities have context — for example, **Days** or **lm**. The field is free-form and has no validation.

### Task Type

Select a Task Type for the task. Available options from the drop-down are **Detailing**, **Estimating**, **Manufacturing** and **Assembly**.

Choose the option that matches the work being performed. For example, a Quotation task uses **Estimating**, and an assembly task for custom-manufactured items uses **Assembly**.

> ℹ️ **Note:** Assembly tasks are used exclusively in process models linked to Assembly Kit products and Special Assembly Products. Assembly and manufacturing task types (Detailing, Estimating, Manufacturing) cannot be combined in the same process model. See [Process Model Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28402124) for the save-time validation rule.

### Plant

Select a Plant from the drop-down menu. The list of available options is determined by the plants configured in [Plant Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28407164).

> ℹ️ **Note:** Assembly tasks do not require a Plant. The **Plant** field can be left blank for tasks with the **Assembly** task type.

4. Click **Save** once complete.

# Maintaining a Task

To maintain an existing task, perform the following:

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Tasks > Standard Task Maintenance**.
2. Click on the task line you wish to edit, the fields will automatically become available to modify.

> ⚠️ The line number and Code are not editable; to change these values you will need to delete the task and re-enter it.

Once changes have been made click **Save** to apply the changes.

# Deleting a Task

To delete an existing task, perform the following:

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Tasks > Standard Task Maintenance**.
2. Click on the task line you wish to delete and click the **Remove** button.

You will be asked to confirm if you wish to delete the task, click **Yes** when prompted.
