# How to Search for a Customer

To locate a customer and then view and maintain their details, proceed as follows:

## 1. Access Customer Dashboard

There are several ways to access the Purchase Orders screen. These are:

- Click the **Customer Dashboard icon** at the top of Frameworks.
- Click the **Frameworks Menu **to open the **Navigation Tree**. In the search box, enter **Customer Dashboard.**

> ℹ️ The right side of the Customer Dashboard Search screen displays **Recently Selected** products. Simply click the hyperlink to view, and in some cases maintain, information for the chosen product.

## 2. Search for a Customer

There are two search options are available: **Basic **and **Advanced**.

### Using Basic Search

1. Click **Find **to search for all your customers. You can refine your search using the following:
  - **Customer No: ** Enter the customer number of the customer you are looking for.
  - **Search: **Enter any of the following search terms for the customer you are looking for
    - The customer’s name
    - Short name or partial customer name
    - Principal name or partial name
    - Primary or any contact phone number or partial phone number
    - The customers ABN (Australian Business Number)
    - The customers ACN (Australian Company Number)
  - **My Brand Only: **Enable the checkbox to display your branded customers if applicable. Brands give you the ability to divide your business/branches by brand or division, for example, Trade or Retail. Customer brands are allocated in [Customer Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28389894).
  - **Show Hidden: **Enable the checkbox to show hidden customers. Hidden customers are allocated in [Customer Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28389894).
  - **Exclude Permanent Stop: **Enable the checkbox to exclude (not show) customers whose credit hold status is **Permanent Stop**.
2. Once you have added your **Search Criteria** click **Find **to update the search results.

### Using Advanced Search Criteria

1. Clicking on the **Advanced Search Criteria **heading opens up additional search options to help you refined down your search even more.   
These options are:
  - **From Cust ID **and** To** range: Enter a customer ID range for the customers you are looking for.
  - **From Name **and** To** range: Enter a customer name range for the customers you are looking for.
  - **Name Begins**: Enter the beginning of the customer's name to find all customers with this text at the start of their name.
  - **Type**: From the drop-down menu select the customer type. The available options are **Cash**,** Charge **or **Other.**
2. Once you have added your **Advanced Search** **Criteria**, click **Find**.

> ⚠️ If the search times out you will need to be more specific with your search criteria because too many records are being returned.

## 3. Maintain a Customer

Once the results are displayed, click the relevant **Customer ID **hyperlink** **to view, and in some cases maintain, information for the chosen customer.

> ℹ️ If there is only one customer returned in the search results, their customer record is automatically displayed.

> ⚠️ Users defined as **Credit Managers** in [User Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28378032) will be able to view **Bad Debt **customers.
