A minor extension of the after-imaging technique is to periodically copy collected after-imaging (AI) data to a remote site. This could occur every fifteen minutes, or even more frequently. In this way, AI data is available for recovery from backup should the DR site be required, thus requiring less rework and limited data loss.

A small enhancement to this is to continuously 'play' the after-image files onto a restored copy of the backup as they arrive at the disaster recovery site, ensuring that the DR database is a **warm backup**—no more than 15 minutes out of date.
