Sterland offers three Disaster Recovery (DR) options without impacting the application in any way.

These are termed:

# 1. Hot Standby

Uses Progress Replication to sync the primary production database to the standby server real-time.  This is quite an expensive option due to Progress license requirements.

# 2. Warm Standby

Uses Progress Database After-Imaging to sync the primary production database to the standby server on a timed interval. This is a more cost-effective option that provides most of the Hot Standby benefits at a lower cost.

# 3. Cold Standby

There is no sync from primary to standby.  This method is simply a standby server sitting ready, where the recovery process is manual, via restore from backup, load of AI files if available.

> ℹ️ The [Progress Database After-Imaging (AI) feature](https://kb.myframeworks.com.au/space/FRAM/438960229) is available at no additional cost but because additional data is being stored, there are some (minimal) performance overheads.
