# Overview

Multi-tray printing enables automatic distribution of picking slip copies across different printer trays through QZ Tray integration. This supports colour-coded picking workflows where each tray contains different coloured paper for operational purposes.

This functionality is NOT feature-driven.

Before multi-tray printing can be used the following system administration activities marked (*required*) must be completed. Also, depending on your business requirement, there are some recommended (*optional*) settings.

# Prerequisites

### 1. Printer Hardware Configuration (*Required*)

The physical printer must have multiple paper trays installed and properly configured in the printer driver. QZ Tray automatically detects available trays through the operating system printer driver.

Configure each tray with the appropriate coloured paper for your operational workflow requirements.

### 2. QZ Tray Installation (*Required*)

QZ Tray must be installed and configured on each workstation that will use multi-tray printing.

> ✅ Refer to [Frameworks Printing with QZ Tray Setup](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28378436) for installation and configuration procedures.

# System Settings and Flags

The following system flag controls multi-tray printing functionality:

1. **PickSlipPrtBin** - Enables automatic distribution of picking slip copies across sequential printer trays (*Required*).

---

# Setup Requirements

### 1. Print Document Configuration (*Required*)

Configure picking slip stationery to use XML format for multi-tray printing support.

**Navigation Path**: System Administration > System Setup > Stationery & Reports > Print Document Configuration

Locate **Picking Slip** in the Document Type list and enable the **XML** checkbox. Multi-tray printing requires XML format documents to function correctly.

> ℹ️ The **Doc Storage** checkbox is optional and enables automatic attachment of PDF copies of picking slips to transactions within Frameworks.

### 2. My Printer Configuration (*Required*)

Enable QZ Tray browser printing and select the multi-tray printer for picking slip output.

**Navigation Path**: My Frameworks > My Printer Configuration

Enable the **Use QZ Tray** checkbox to activate browser printing through QZ Tray.

In the Printer Type list, locate **Picking Slip** and select the printer that has multi-tray functionality from the **Printer** dropdown. This printer must have multiple trays installed and configured in the printer driver.

> ⚠️ **Important: **Each user must complete this configuration for multi-tray printing to function. Direct printing method does not support multi-tray functionality.

# Multi-Tray Distribution Logic

Multi-tray printing distributes copies across sequential trays based on the number of copies requested:

- **1 copy**: Prints from tray 1
- **2 copies**: Print from tray 1, then tray 2
- **3 copies**: Print from tray 1, tray 2, then tray 3
- **4 copies**: Print from tray 1, tray 2, tray 3, then tray 4
- **5+ copies**: All copies print from tray 1 only (multi-tray distribution disabled)

Each copy prints as a separate print job to ensure correct tray selection. Maximum of 4 trays are supported for distribution.

# Implementation Validation

Verify multi-tray printing configuration by performing a test print:

1. Configure a printer with multiple paper trays loaded with different coloured paper
2. Enable the **PickSlipPrtBin** system flag
3. Ensure QZ Tray is running and configured
4. Print picking slips with 2-4 copies specified
5. Confirm each copy prints from a different tray with the expected coloured paper

**Success Criteria**: Each copy prints from a sequential tray with the correct paper colour for your operational workflow.

**If Issues**: Verify QZ Tray is running, printer trays are correctly configured in the printer driver, and XML stationery format is selected for picking slips.
