Add a tally product to a sales transaction by entering the required lengths and quantities in the **Tally Maintenance** window or directly in the **Tally** field.

> 📝 ## Prerequisites
> 📝
> 📝 - The product is configured as a tally product in [Product Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28378114) with the **Length Tally** checkbox enabled.
> 📝 - Child product lengths exist for every length you intend to enter. If a length doesn't have a matching child product, Frameworks will display a validation error and prevent the entry.
> 📝 - The **Tally Entry Popup** checkbox is enabled in the user's settings if you want the **Tally Maintenance** window to open automatically.
> 📝 - The transaction (Sales Order, POS sale or Credit Note) is open and ready for product entry.

## Steps

1. From the **Frameworks Menu**, navigate to **Sales > Transaction Processing > Sales Orders** and open an existing Sales Order or Quote, or create a new one.
2. On the **Product Entry** tab, scan or enter the tally product ID in the **Product** field, or click **Search** to use the [Product Finder](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/fwksproau/pages/30531076) or [Product Multi Selection](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/fwksproau/pages/30530036).
3. Once the tally product is entered, the **Tally** field and **Tally** button become active. Choose one of the following options to enter the required quantities and lengths.

**Option A — Use the Tally Maintenance window:**

4. Click the **Tally** button to open the **Tally Maintenance** window.
5. Click **Add** and enter the **Quantity** and the length required. The length field label reflects the product's unit of measure — for example, **Feet** for LF products. Repeat for each additional length.

> ℹ️ **Note:** For imperial UOM products (e.g. BF, LF, SF), an inches entry field is displayed alongside the length field when the **Show Inches?** checkbox is enabled for the product in [Product Maintenance](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/28378114). When **Show Inches?** is disabled (the default), lengths are entered in the unit of measure only.

6. Click **Save/Close** to add the tally quantities to the transaction line.

**Option B — Enter directly in the Tally field:**

4. In the **Tally** field, type the quantities and lengths in the format: `[qty]/[length] [qty]/[length]` For example: `10/3 10/2.4` equals 10 x 3m lengths and 10 x 2.4m lengths.
5. Press **Tab** or **Enter** to confirm. Frameworks compares the entered lengths against available child product lengths and adds each matching child product as a separate transaction line.

**Continuing after either option:**

7. Review the transaction lines added and adjust pricing if required. See Additional Notes below for pricing behaviour.
8. Continue adding products or complete the transaction as normal.

## Result

The tally product's child products are added to the transaction as separate lines, one per length. Pricing is applied based on the child-specific pricing hierarchy. The **LM** column displays the total lineal metres for each line based on length multiplied by quantity.

## Additional Notes

**Tally Maintenance window fields**

The following fields are available when entering tally quantities via the **Tally Maintenance** window (Option A):

- **Unit Price:** Defaults to the **Branch Sell** price from the **Product Branch Pricing** section in Product Maintenance. Enter a different unit price to override the default.
- **Discount %:** Enter a discount percentage to apply to the unit price.
- **Line Price:** Enter a total line price for all quantities of this product. If a line price is entered, the **Unit Price** and **Discount %** must both be set to 0. The unit price is calculated automatically once the lines are added to the transaction.
- **Use Packs:** Enable this checkbox to order multiple packs of timber. When enabled, the **Production** drop-down and **Pack Size** field are displayed.
- **Quantity:** Enter the number of pieces required for each length. If a length doesn't have a matching child product, a validation error appears and the length cannot be added until the child product is created or the length is corrected.
- **Feet (or equivalent UOM label):** Enter the length required. The field label reflects the product's unit of measure — for example, **Feet** for LF products.
- **LM:** Displays the total lineal metres calculated as length multiplied by quantity. This field is read-only.

Click **Switch to Sales Packs Entry** to change to the **Sales Pack Entry** screen.

**Pricing inheritance**

When adding tally products to a transaction, Frameworks applies pricing using a hierarchical approach. Child-specific pricing takes precedence over parent pricing, which takes precedence over product group pricing.

> ✅ Refer to [Contract and Promotion Pricing for Parent and Child Products](https://sterlandsupport.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FRAM/pages/234225682) for complete details.

If the unit sell price of the parent product is overridden, child products adopt the same price. If the line price is overridden during tally entry, child products receive a unit price calculated as the total line price divided by quantity.

**Parent product behaviour**

You can enter the tally parent product ID in the **Product** field to add child products to a transaction. Tally parent products cannot be sold on their own and must be transacted through their child products.

> ℹ️ **Tip:** You can also enter the child product's code directly into a transaction line instead of using the parent product's code.

**Bypassing the tally popup**

The **Tally Maintenance** window is bypassed when a product has multiple units of measure or when products are added using multi-select. In these cases, quantities and lengths must be entered manually in the transaction line.
