Import a bank statement file from your banking software into Frameworks to create a file import reconciliation with automated matching suggestions.

> 📝 ## Prerequisites
> 📝
> 📝 - Feature code **BNK** (Electronic Banking) is active.
> 📝 - Bank account is configured in Bank Account Maintenance.
> 📝 - Bank statement file format is enabled in Bank Reconciliation - File Format miscellaneous table.
> 📝 - Bank statement file is available on your computer in one of the supported formats.
> 📝 - GL period is open for the statement date.
> 📝 - Access to Bank Reconciliation Dashboard.

## Steps

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **General Ledger > Transaction Processing > Bank Reconciliation**.
2. Click **New Reconciliation** to open the **New Bank Statement** window.
3. In the **New Bank Statement** window, complete the following fields:
  - **Bank:** Select the bank account you are importing the statement for.
  - **Reconciliation Type:** Select **File Import**.
  - **Reference:** Enter an optional reference to identify this reconciliation (for example, "March 2026" or "Statement 15").
  - **File Type:** Select your bank's statement format (NAI, BAI, ANZ CSV, NAB CSV, Westpac CSV, BNZ CSV, Commonwealth Bank CSV, or other available formats).
4. Click **Upload**, browse to your bank statement file, and select the file to import.
5. If prompted, enter the **Closing Balance** from your bank statement in the **Closing Balance** field. This is required for NAB CSV, Westpac CSV, and BNZ CSV formats.
6. Click **Save** to import the bank statement and run the scheduled import task.
7. Review the imported statement transactions in the Bank Statement Reconciliation screen that opens automatically.

## Result

The bank statement file is imported into Frameworks. Statement transactions appear in the Bank Statement Reconciliation screen ready to be matched with GL transactions. The reconciliation status shows as **Unbalanced** until all transactions are matched and the reconciliation is finalised.

> ℹ️ **Importing multiple files for the same period:** You can import additional bank statement files for the same bank and period (for example, the first and second halves of a month). To merge transactions into an existing reconciliation, repeat this procedure and enter the matching reference in the **Reference** field. The new transactions will be added to the existing reconciliation and any duplicates will need to be resolved (see: Resolve Duplicate Statement Transactions).

> ⚠️ ## Additional Notes
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ **Note:** The following file formats require you to manually enter the closing balance when importing: NAB CSV Format, all Westpac CSV formats, and BNZ CSV Format. Other formats (NAI, BAI) include the closing balance in the file itself.
