**Template Products **simplify the creation of special products (items not typically included in your product catalogue), ensuring consistency and control in the sales process. By selecting a template product as the foundation for a special product, your salespeople can quickly populate key fields such as product groups and subgroups.

This pre-filled information streamlines data entry, maintains accuracy and enforces pricing controls by standardising the sell price and GP% for special items. Template Products empower sales teams to efficiently create tailored offerings while maintaining profitability and alignment with business policies.

# Creating a Template Product

## 1. Update the Product Groups

From the **Product Group Maintenance** screen, in the **Branch/SubGroup GP%** section, confirm or update the **Special Product GP%**. When set, this percentage is automatically applied to the **Create Special Product** window and overrides any defined GP% and sell prices on the product template.

> ℹ️ Leave the **Special Product GP%** as **0.00** to let the product template to apply its GP% and Sell price.

## 2. Create the Template Product

To create a template product, Perform the following:

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and navigate to **Inventory > Maintenance > Product Maintenance** from the navigation tree.
2. Click **New Product** to begin entering the template product details.
3. Enter the required **New Product **details for the template product.
  
  1. **Product ID: **Enter a **Product ID **to represent the Template Product.
  2. **Product Type: **Ensure you select **Template** from the **Product Type** menu.
  3. **Product Description:** Enter a **Product Description **to help identify the product. This can be updated when creating the special product.
  4. **Product Group **and** Sub Group**: Enter or search for the required **Product Group **and **Sub Group**.
  5. **Unit of Measure**: Enter or search for the product's default **Unit or Measure.**
  6. **Cost**: If required, enter pre-set costs and wastage %
  7. **Unit Sell**: If required, enter a pre-set sell price.
    1. ***Note: ****If the product group has a ****Special Product GP%**** this sell price will be overwritten.*
4. Click **Save **to create the Template Product.
5. Update any additional pre-set product details as required, for example, preferred supplier, location code or Lable quantities.
