# Overview

Device IDs identify the terminal or device you're using to access Frameworks. You can create new device IDs and allocate them to your browser session to ensure proper device tracking and configuration.

## Create a New Device ID

Before you can allocate a device ID to your browser, you need to create the device record in Frameworks.

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and type **Device Maintenance**, or navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Devices & Printing > Device Maintenance**.
2. Click **Add** to create a new device record.
3. Complete the device information fields using the **Tab** key to move between fields. The key fields to complete include:
  - **Device ID**: Enter a unique identifier for the device
  - **Description**: Enter a meaningful description to help identify the device
  - **Branch Code**: Select the branch the device will be located at from the drop-down menu
4. Click **Save** to create the device record.

## Allocate a Device ID to Your Browser

Once you've created the device record, you can allocate it to your current browser session.

1. Click the **Frameworks Menu** and type **Device ID Allocation**, or navigate to **System Administration > System Setup > Devices & Printing > Device ID Allocation**.
2. In the **New Device ID** field, enter or search for the device you want to allocate to your browser session.
3. Click **Save** to apply the device allocation.
4. Log out of Frameworks completely and log back in for the device ID change to take effect.

> ⚠️ **Important: **You must log out and log back in for the device ID allocation to take effect. Simply refreshing your browser will not apply the change.
