Many major suppliers now make their product information and pricing updates available to your business on disk or on their websites as, for example, text files, data files, Excel files or as comma-separated values (CSV) files. These files are referred to as an  Electronic Product Catalogue (EPC) . It doesn't make business sense to clutter your product file with thousands of products that are not stocked but it makes enormous business sense to have access to these products. Control over the EPC process not only gives access to these products but carries with it the assurance that the data is up to date. Add to this the ability to take any product from the second product file (EPC), add it to customer orders, link it to a purchase order, receipt it and sell it, then you have a powerful tool.
