# Overview

<span style="color: #333333">A work order is a means of submitting the amount required for the products, materials and labour required for a job.</span>

# How to Create a Work Order

There are 2 ways to create a work order, each specific to certain types. To create a work order, complete one of the following:

> Macro (rw-ui-steps-macro)
>

> 
> ## Creating a Work Order through the Work Order Dashboard
> 
> Through the **Work Order Dashboard**, you are able to create a stock work order.
> 
> To create a stock work order, complete the following:
> 
> > Macro (rw-step)
> 
> Click > Macro (inline-media-image)
> 
>  and navigate to **WorkOrders** > **Work Orders** from the navigation tree.
> 
> > Macro (rw-step)
> 
> Click > Macro (inline-media-image)
> 
>  to open the **New Work Order** window and create a new stock work order.
>

> 
> Complete the following fields:
> 
> - Add a **Description** to the work order to describe it contents and help identify it.
> - Select a **Company** and **Branch** from the dropdown menus as required.
> - Select a user to assign the work order to using the **search** icon or leave as the current user.
>

> 
> Click > Macro (inline-media-image)
> 
>  to create the stock work order.
> 
> > Macro (rw-step)
> 
> ## Creating a Work Order through Sales Orders
> 
> Through **Sales Orders** you can create workshop, service and project orders which create respectively named work orders alongside them.
> 
> To create a workshop, service or project order, complete the following:
> 
>

>  to open the **New Sales Orders** window and create a new order.
>

> 
> Complete the following fields:
> 
> - In the **Customer** field, enter the customer's name or ID and select the customer or use the **search** icon.
> - In the **Type **field, select **Workshop Order**, **Service Order** or **Project Order** from the dropdown menu.
> - From the **Desp. Method** dropdown menu, select a despatch method.
> 
> And, enter any other information as required.
>

> Click > Macro (inline-media-image)
> 
>  to create the order and the related work order.
