Internal gift cards allow customers to purchase cards with monetary value that can be redeemed later to pay for goods at your store. Frameworks manages the entire gift card lifecycle in-house, from registration and sale through to redemption and refunds, with no third-party processors or external dependencies.

Gift cards can** ONLY be sold at Point of Sale (POS)**. Once active, gift cards can be **redeemed as payment across Point of Sale, Sales Order Processing and Customer Payments**. The system tracks all card transactions and maintains accurate balance information for each card in real time.

## Process Stages

Internal gift card processing follows these stages:

1. **Register Cards** - Register gift cards in the Gift Card Register before they can be sold. Each card is assigned a unique number, a card type (fixed value or variable value) and a status of Registered.
2. **Sell and Activate Cards** - Sell registered gift cards at Point of Sale. The card activates immediately when the POS transaction is completed. The card status changes from Registered to Active.
3. **Redeem Cards as Payment** - Customers use active gift cards to pay for goods at Point of Sale, on Sales Orders or as Customer Payments. Frameworks checks the available balance before processing each payment.
4. **Check Balances** - Check any gift card's current balance and view its complete transaction history using the Internal Gift Card Check Balance utility.
5. **Process Refunds** - When processing credit notes for returned goods, refund the amount back onto a gift card. The refund can go to any valid card, not just the card used for the original purchase.

## Who's Involved

- **Counter Staff / POS Operators:** Sell gift cards, redeem gift cards as payment at POS, process refunds to gift cards, and check gift card balances.

- **Accounts Receivable Staff:** Apply gift card payments to customer accounts and allocate payments to invoices.
